The cast of our 2008 Mariner Cruise
Our last Theatre at Sea cruise in February was a great success, going 1,000 miles down the Amazon River in Brazil - one of the world's last environmental frontiers. There is no place on earth with forests as deep, as unspoiled, and as pristine as the Brazilian Amazon jungle. We have been to the Amazon many times, and it has, by far, the most breathtaking views and thrilling sights that we have ever seen.

On February 21st, we took chartered flights arranged by Regent Cruises from Fort Lauderdale to Manaus, Brazil - the capital of the Amazon province and a wonderful city! From there, we went to our ship - the Regent Seven Seas Mariner - to unpack and prepare for our upcoming trip.
That evening we gave an exciting performance in the Manaus Opera House, which was brought over stone by stone from Paris in 1890 by the incredible visionary Brian Fitzcarraldo. Many of our actors performed in the lovely Opera House, giving a rousing start to our journey. We stopped at two villages along the Amazon to see how the indigenous people of Brazil live, and explored the "Meeting of the Waters," where the waters of the Amazon and the Tapajos Rivers meet and mixed. Next, we stopped at Devil's Island and Barbados for some wonderful shopping, and we had a party given for us by the Governor of Barbados. The parties was quite spectacular, and the governor, who loves having us in Barbados, has given many of them for us throughout the years.

After Barbados, we continued to Puerto Rico, where we enjoyed a party in the Old Town. This city was founded in 1521 - 200 years before the first city in America - and all of the buildings are older than any in the United States! Then we went on our way to Dominica and Grand Turk Island before we come back home to Fort Lauderdale.
Our 88th year in Theatre!
